Create Momentum with Your Writing
To do something that you have never done, you need to do something different.
- Know your Why.
- A great book, Start with Why by Simon Sinek.
- Know your purpose for writing your book.
- What do you want the reader to feel and learn.
- Schedule your writing time.
- Are you a morning or evening person.
- Set an alarm, and put it in your calendar.
- Planning fosters new routines
- Have a designated writing space.
- Is it quiet? Can you write for 30min without being disturbed.
- Do you have a comfortable chair and desk.
- How long will you write for – 30 minutes is a great duration to start with.
- Play music. Anything from Sonic yogi is great. His instrumental crystals bowls are attuned to the different energy centers or charkas in the body. All his music can be found on the free App Insighttimer. (so good)
- No matter how bad you feel or how much judgment is present on your schedule writingday, write anyway and edit later. I don’t make any editing in my writing time. I do this once the first draft of a chapter is complete.
- Write to a deadline or due date.
- Have your editor or friend keep you accountable.
- Have your accountability partner come up with consequences if you don’t make the deadline like donating $100 to a political party that you detest.
- Reward yourself with something significant if you complete your first draft on time.
